I keep getting this annoying system alert pop -up say (trojan-spy.win32@mx). I ran hijack this and the results are below. How do I get rid of this pop - up? I'm using Windows XP SP2. I'm also, getting a message stating" Malware Threats" your computer is infected with a backdoor Trojan.

Hijackthis results:

The term "Running Process" You just gave me a list of all of the programs you were running at the time the virus was found. Before you fix anything besure that you do not have all of these programs running. If you look at the list again, it shows you were working on Word Perfect Corel Draw, You printer Software was running etc.
You may want to have your resources check it looks like your over the allowed amount of programs running.

Do fix anything with that many programs running. Have someone walk you through your startup files.

If I was fixing this issue, I would probably disable all startup items. Run Norton for Virus, Link to Norton to find out how to remove this Trojan from your system without Reinstalling windows.

Sometime a System Rollback with System Restore will work.

You also had some updates showing in the list. You might want to check with Windows update for any security updates. The way you find them is to go to Start, All programs, and Windows updates. This will link to Microsoft and download the needs security patches.

Hope that helps.

I'm not sure what program is making this pop up. I don't know to much about these things that's why I need help. I really need step by step instructions. The running programs automatically start when my computer starts ups. I was not using any of them at the time. Could you please give me step by step instructions to do the task you listed.
