when i install backtrack 2 it asks me for the root of the cd what is the root of the cd please can you tell me

It wants to know the directory under which the CD is mounted.

usually

/mnt/cdrom OR /mnt/hdc (or similar)

OR /media/cdrom


etc....

cheers for that ill give it a go when i install it is there anyway i can dual boot it with windows like ubuntu

I was having the same problem .. ain't getting time to write about my experiences about backtrack. Anyways you can use this guide to install backtrack on your harddrive.
