Timeout error

Hi all
I am using Web Developer 2005 express edition to create a site. It works fine except for the time out error i sometimes get. I do not always get this error but most of the time when i log in for the first time in the login page and when i try to select or insert into my sql database i get this error.
Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.
Can anyone help me. what do i need to do to make sure that i don't get this timeout error.
