Hi there. After my pc crashed while playing Command and Conqer 3, every time I boot up my pc there are no desktop icons or taskbar, and its really really slow. I can bring up ctrl alt and delete task manager.
All i can see is my desktop background.

Things I have tried:
system restore
repair install windows xp
download some tweaks from kellys corner
virus scan
SFC /scannow
running explorer.exe - it appears for less than a second then goes
booting in safe mode - no taskbar will show

I really am clueless as to what to do, and if it came to a format how would I get my important files onto cd? or how do i get into 'my computer'?

Right click on the desktop, select properties,then
desktop tab, click on customize desktop and check on the desktop items....
