I know it sounds weird, but here is my story. Well, I have Windows XP Service Pack 1, and I have a Toshiba Laptop.
My weird story:
Well, it all began with the res:// problem. I did everything, but I foundout how to fix it. I just had to UPDATE Ad-Aware and Spybot, so after that they removed all the malware and other stuff messing up my IE, but I also ran about buster right after that to make sure that nothing is left. Aftwer that I ran them all in safe mode twice, spybot first, ad-aware second, and about buster third. Now I thought my IE was finally fixed, but I was wrong.
The current problem:
My IE homepage is not changing anymore, and no more res:// being detected by hi-jack this. But I have one problem, after I type in the webpage without the www.(EX: yahoo.com <<no www. included), it takes me to the res:// homepage but it says the page cannot be displayed like other web pages which do not work, but on the top it says res://xbomi.dll/url_error.html. I seriously need help, it is like the res:// is not there, but part of it stayed, but I can't find it and remove it. I always have to type in the www., or else it takes to that webpage, but the webpage does not exist, because the res:// has been removed. Do you get what I mean about the SIDE EFFECT remains. Please help.

If you want to do something, do it right or don't do it at all. !!!!
do an online virus scan
Be sure and put a check in the box by "Auto Clean" before you do the scan. If it finds anything that it cannot clean have it delete it or make a note of the exact file name and file location so you can delete it yourself.
