Trojan? but kazpersky 6.0 say "OK"

Jul 27th, 2007
After upgrading my bandwidth with my ISP up to 1.5Mbps, i noticed my connection was still sluggish. The techie at my ISP asked me to Run-Execute-CMD-Netstat, and about 50+ TCPs came up. He said it looked like i had a Trojan virus.

I did an update and a full scan with Kazpersky, and it found one "Trojan Downloader", but it said it neutralized it. Here's what it found:

detected: riskware Invader (loader) Running process: C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\msnmsgr.exe
detected: riskware Invader Running process: C:\WINDOWS\System32\userinit.exe
detected: riskware Invader Running process: C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\netfxupdate.exe
deleted: riskware not-a-virusownloader.Win32.WinFixer.z File: C:\Documents and Settings\JASON\Desktop\setup_en.exe
detected: riskware Invader Running process: C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe
detected: riskware Invader Running process: C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe
deleted: Trojan program Trojan-Downloader.Win32.Zlob.bvp File: C:\Program Files\Video ActiveX Access\imsmain.exe
detected: riskware Invader Running process: C:\Program Files\D-Link AirPlus G+ Access Point\AirPlus_Manager.exe
detected: riskware Invader Running process: C:\Documents and Settings\JASON\Local Settings\Temp\is-0NAVQ.tmp\is-B60F0.tmp
detected: riskware Invader Running process: C:\Documents and Settings\JASON\Local Settings\Temp\is-I1J0P.tmp\is-T13SH.tmp

Afterwhich it said "All threats have been neutralized".

However my connection is still slow, and when i Run-Execute-CMD-Netstat, i still get a bunch of TCP lines.

Here's my Hijackthis logfile:

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a Notepad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.

Please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
  • Choose your usual account.
Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart anyway into normal Windows. A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply along with a new HijackThis log.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Warning : running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.

FYI - i just did a run-execute-Cmd-netstat, and almost a hundred TCP lines showed up. I'm not even sure this is 'normal' or not. the techie at my ISP said there should be none - but a friend that is much more techie than i says that it is normal to have them if you are online. ??

Every instance of an open webpage will have at least one connection, to secure sites there could be several; a couple running for your system [internal], multitab browsers such as firefox, opera will have at least one per tab. And so on.
But a hundred or so? Wow... typically I would have maybe 8-10 open.. but I aint the world's keenest browser.
Deep, deep in the woods, but walking about.

Believe it -- i just checked it again, and it's easily a hundred. I use Firefox, and have some rss tabs... but i can't account for more that 10 connections, based on what you said.

sometimes i open and it's about 8-10 -- and other times 50, and yet other ( like just now) ... 100 approx.

Please go to Jotti's or to virustotal and have these files scanned. Post the results back here.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\TmrService.exe
C:\PROGRA~1\BUGSDE~1\ugescw.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\tmr\WinTmr.exe

=========

Can you please do the following.

===============

Go to Add/Remove programs and uninstall the following, if present:

MyWebSearch

The above could appear anywhere within the entry. Be careful not to remove any personal or system software.

===============

Scan with HijackThis and then place a check next to all the following, if present:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {02478D38-C3F9-4efb-9B51-7695ECA05670} - (no file)

O8 - Extra context menu item: &Search - http://edits.mywebsearch.com/toolbar...tml?p=ZJfox000

O9 - Extra button: Related - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Show &Related Links - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm

O16 - DPF: {1D6711C8-7154-40BB-8380-3DEA45B69CBF} -
O16 - DPF: {87BE3784-6977-4E84-AA08-55A96B9CEAC5} (Bl_camera Control) - http://192.168.0.131/bl_camera.cab

Now, close all instances of Internet Explorer and any other windows you have open except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

===============

To help protect your system from hostile ActiveX content, or special 'downloadable' files:

Download, install and keep updated, SpywareBlaster. If you've installed it for the first time:

1) Check for any available updates; if present, they'll be automatically downloaded and installed.
2) Next, "Enable all protection".
3) Exit the program.

-

Note: Remember to regularly check for updates.

===============

After rebooting, rescan with hijackthis and post back a new log. Please let me know how your pc is now.
