Why don't you try two forms - a simple one that asks for your name and email and what sort of work you want done, and your current advanced one. The amount of data required may be causing the problem here, and you may get more contacts with a shorter form, though it will require more emailing back and forth with the customer.

You need a privacy policy - say what you will use the data for. People get put off if they don't know.

Maybe I'm not getting this because I don't live in America but what IS a siding?

Have you considered a more catchy domain name?

You might also want to change the design slightly, but I don't think what you have is causing your problems, though obviously it's not going to win many beauty contests!

Also could you do some case studies of projects? get some content on the site that people will want to read. almost everyone likes reading about what other people have done with a view to doing it themselves - in Wales we call it 'keeping up with the Jones'' - meaning if next door paints his front door we have to too!

Hopefully this gives you some ideas.
Regards
Dave

I would remove the real estate section and the Linux links. This site is about home improvement. I was also surprised when I found that I was switched to another site on the tile links. This practice leads to feelings of lack of privacy.

Hi, Steve...
It might be a "process problem"

You are going for a "close" too quickly.
You ask them to go from "We are great, here's why" to "Hire us"
with a link that says, "Begin here".

52 out of 54 people aren't either:
A) getting what they expect by "Begin"
B) ready to "marry" you.

and/or both

So, what do you do when someone's likes you, but not ready
to marry you? Date more.

In your case, the probably means, cruising the products catalog.

It's good that your products page has so much on it,
but it's bad they they are "just" links to the vendors websites.
Consider building pages of your own with at least SOME of
each vendor's stuff.

(this link is broken, by the way: http://www.reverebuildingproducts.co..._FrameSet.html
I didn't check them all, but you probably want to.)

On the home page, consider this:

Move the "Before after..." text ABOVE the pictures.
and make it the same size as "Highest Quality at..." text.
Personally, once I read the "guarantee", my eyes jumped to
the paragraph, past the rest.
You want more clicks on the before/after pics. That's dating.
If you can, add glowing recommendations from the owners
of those sites to the enlarged pictures. That's the "3rd party referral" -
that's someone saying while you are on the date, "wow, you
are smart to date them!".

Consider putting a products link before the "Begin/Marry me" link
Make the products link open a new browser window.
The (new) products page is organized like yours, but the first click on the
Vendor should get YOUR (new) pages, showing some of their stuff
and a link to "see more from this vendor" ( which is the link you have
now).

Consider a click on one of the items on your product page to "select"
taking the user to a short form that asks their name, phone, time to call,
(you'll already know all of "step" 3). Forget "step" 1. You can ask all
that when you call them. Comments block is always good.

I realize that's a lot of work for you, and it may take a while.

If you want to try simple changing the form you have,
Consider this:

SECTION 1, ask the work they need done (your "step" 3)
- including the comments block.

SECTION 2, their name, phone, contact time.

That's it. Plenty. You can collect the rest of the info and
enter it yourself.

You might be wondering why switching the order of their
personal info and the work info will matter.

"It's all about the work"
That's why they are there, not to reveal information to you.
The most important thing is first and that's about them,
not the work. Not good.

Even the act of typing in what work they need,
is a little dating the makes the information reveal easier.
In other words, by the time they tell you all about their project,
they already are more invested in you, and more willing to do
the "reveal".

In fact.. instead of "comments" ( or maybe in addition to... )
Make it "Tell us about your project"
THAT will get them typing!
That might be the dating equivalent of meeting the parents ;-)

The other issue that might be making 52 out of 54 bailout on you
is that your form says, "Service Request" all over the place.
Is that REALLY what they are doing?
Or are they requesting a BID ?

It's not a small difference.
I don't know your process, which probably means many others
don't either.
There might be some inference that your "steps" 1,2,3 lock me into
"requesting" some multi-thousand dollar project. YIKES.
Again, that's a marriage... and we haven't really dated yet.

What you do isn't like buying a book at Amazon.com,
so there's no sense trying to mimic their order process.

So, your (new) "steps" are really (maybe?)...
"step 1" you tell us about your project
"step 2" we contact you to arrange a visit and bid your project
"step 3" we do the work .. yada yada

Another way to date, something like...
"Proudly servicing Minnesota since 19-- with over XXX successful projects"

okay.. there's some food for thought ;-)

Good Luck
Dan Farfan

Comments:
A) Putting the word "guaranteed" in inverted commas (used here to specify that this is the word I'm talking about) suggests that it is not really guaranteed, but just says it is.

B) The line of Home, About Us, etc., links looks sketchy and irregular. Try grouping them together in a unified design, try dropping them a quarter of an em too.

C) When you do before-and-after pictures, photograph the exact spot you're photographing from and do the after pic from there too. This makes any differences stand out much more clearly.

D) The MNServiceMasters logo and tag look too crushed up together, all the more so next to the wide open space to its right.

E) "...exceeds industry impact standards by an average of 177%, ...", maybe, but put a link to the independent report confirming it.

F) Find MINNESOTA's 1st Choice... Underlined, this looks like a link (ditto the 90 days...), especially starting with the word, "Find".

G) Re-work the copy. You ask what your visitor thinks: "What does quality mean to you?", then tell them what you think. Consider hiring a professional copywriter. This is important.

H) Perhaps define your logo. You have it twice and differently.

I) Perhaps separate the right-hand offers more, either narrowing the main content, putting a vertical line, and perhaps also linking them to examples.

J) Benefits to Consumers: see G above. "No Obligation." I should hope not

Good luck!

I just visited your site and it does not look to bad.

The only suggestion I have is out up some more content and educate your potential clients on what puts you above your competition.

Why do they want to go with you and what do you do in your work that makes you so much better.

You say you make 40% fewer vinyl seams. How do you do that? Put some content to educate on how you do your work with 40% less seams than your competition.

"MNServicemasters exceeds industry impact standards by an average of 177%, a result of this exclusive StormTiteā„¢ Locking System Technology process."

What is a storm lite locking system technology process?

Put some content on what this means and why it is 177% above industry standards.

What i am trying to say is try to educate your potential clients so that you can get there interest and they feel you are the best in the industry.

You are right? Tell your customers why you are.

These are just my opinions.

  1. move the "request a quote" to the top half of the page
  2. Use proper ALT and TITLE tags--and use them properly
  3. remove "Commited to deliver the best contractors to you" on your logo and replace it with a text alternative
  4. remove the ".com" on your logo -- you do not need this here
  5. your Request a Quote form is small but the way you are visually displaying it makes it look like a lot of work -- I suggest removing the "blocks" and put everything together (with it's proper heading)
  6. add "FREE" to Request a quote

Your site is lacking a bit with business requirements such as a Privacy policy mentioned above. You might want to go for a different font and as well jazzing up the middle section too boring right now. For keeping visitors interest, keep the site content updated daily and they'll return.
