change program icon

hi i wanna change the icon for a program but like the actual icon. i know how to change the desktop but does an1 know how to change how it appears in the taskbar

You can't. That icon is embedded in the .exe file. There are programs that actually do that sort of customizing (microangelo, if I remember correctly), but that means changing the .exe file, and that is a BIG no-no. Copyright, corrupting and such.
