AMD socket 754 and 939 processors

How come the amd 64 bit 3400+ http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...103-426&depa=0 is cheaper and has 512 more cache than the 3500+ http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...103-463&depa=0 ?
Is it just because the 3500+ is socket 939 and the 3400+ is socket 754 and 939's typically have better cores? Would i notice a huge difference between the two?
I'd like to order sometime this week so im trying to figure all this stuff out now lol

Nevermind I'm going with the 3500+. I changed from the x800 to the eVGA 6800GT, ram to CORSAIR XMS Xtreme Memory Speed Series Xtra-Low Latency, and motherboard to MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum nForce3 because it uses the nForce3 chipset and I heard its really awesome, looks cool in that black color anyway lol. http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...uctCode=241143
