  #1
Aug 14th, 2004
Hello guys,

I'm really new to computers. :o My computer's really acting up so, I used Adaware se and spybot 1.3 and my windows media still won't work...so that's why I'm scanned my computer with hijackthis.exe...Maybe this will do the trick. But I need help distinguishing what's needs to be deleted and what is safe.

Can someone help me?

Thanks alot :p ,

Chilliewil

Unzip HJT into it's own permanent folder before doing anything in order for it to create backups. (Not a temporary folder or directly on the desktop (in a folder on the desktop is fine) & not directly on your hard drive). Close all (browser) windows & rescan with hijackthis. When the scan is finished place a check in the box to the left of the following entries & click 'fix checked' :

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

O2 - BHO: TwaintecObj Class - {000020DD-C72E-4113-AF77-DD56626C6C42} - C:\WINDOWS\twaintec.dll
O2 - BHO: Search404 Class - {53C330D6-A4AB-419B-B45D-FD4411C1FEF4} - C:\Program Files\404Search\404Search.dll (file missing)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {549B5CA7-4A86-11D7-A4DF-000874180BB3} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file)

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {2CDE1A7D-A478-4291-BF31-E1B4C16F92EB} - (no file)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [myyeladbtubp] C:\WINDOWS\System32\twugck.exe

Reboot into safe mode following the instructions here & navigate to & delete the following if found:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\twugck.exe-file

Reboot normally after doing the above then post a fresh log please.

Hey Crunchie,

here is my fresh log. I did notice that
"O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ybjbsfjw] C:\WINDOWS\System32\twugck.exe"
still showed up after my latest log. I did exactly what you describe...on placing it in "safe mode", I then went to my system 32 file and deleted the exe. file...then rebooting it normally.

What should I do next?

Thanks again,
Chilliewil

Looks like you have been infected with Backdoor.Imiserv since your last visit...
http://securityresponse.symantec.com...r.imiserv.html

Update your antivirus, or if you don't have one try an online scan.
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

[edit]having glanced again at your log with symantec written all though it... I'd say update...[/edit]

Try this scan as well.

Download moveonboot from here & the file(s) you choose will be deleted on reboot.

MoveOnBoot allows you to copy, move or delete files on the next system boot. This comes in very handy, if you need to replace or delete files which are locked by other applications, loaded into memory or cannot be changed until next system boot. You could manually enter a line to the wininit files, but using MoveOnBoot is much simpler, since the program can be integrated into shell - it creates the "Copy/Move/Delete on boot" context menu item.

Hello Crunchie,

I downloaded moveonboot. I could not find the "twugck.exe" under the original folder "C:\WINDOWS\System32\twugck.exe". So I did a search for the exe file and I found it somewhere else (under WINDOWS\Prefetch). So I used "moveonboot" to erase the file...and so here's my fresh log. Can you elvaluate my log? Thank you again for all your help.

Hello DaveSW,

Thank you for directing me to "HOUSE CALL". I was able to get rid of more viruses (That Adaware and Spybot didn't detect).

Thanks again.
