Set environment variable with windows session scope

I need to set an environment variable with a scope of the windows session. Normally when you set a variable in dos this variable lasts as long as the command window is open. The thing is a the developers need to read an environment variable in every session of a server and y can“t find the way!! Has anyone got a solution for this problem!!
