CPU usage enormous, sudden slow down ..????

Hello,
Can anyone help. 2 days ago, my computer suddenly slowed down to snail pace ...!!!
We've run a virus check and can't find anything, but the PC will npt allow us to update our anti-virus either. If we run a programme it takes an eternity to load up, as does the internet, and evrytime we click on something it has a huge delayed reaction. Basically it's like our PC has just walked out of the 1980's. We also keep getting the 'this programe is not responding box'. I defragged the C drive but this made little or no difference to the speed. Could it be a virus not picked up by our anti virus.? or memory problem.? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Your heading is CPU Usage enormous. What does Tak Manager report as the runaway program or process? And have you tried stopping it in Task Manager or the Services window of COmputer Admin?

L'm not an expert in all of this but having looked at Task manager it seems that one program is running at 99% of the CPU ........ see below...
sfus.exe SYSTEM 99 5416Ko
Everything else seems to say 0 for processer..???
As I don't actually know what sfus.exe is I'm reluctant to stop it in case it's something crucial to the system, unless someone can tell otherwise.

You've got a piece of software from SpamFighter loaded that bolts on to Outlook to control Spam.
Did you consciously install this software? Anyway, you can kill the process with End Process in Task Manager with no ill effect except possibly for the moment on Outlook.
Does the process hog CPU when Outlook isn't loaded?
When it's no longer running, we'll need to go to next steps. If you consciously installed this, I'd UNINSTALL, re-download and re-install SFUS and its components.
If you didn't consciously install it, just UNINSTALL it and delete everything associated with it in Program Files.
Then clean your Registry up with Advanced Windows care (free download) - and all should be well.
