Help old drivers vs xp pro

here is a problem alot of us cannot figure out ,,after upgrading to xp pro the sound level bar goes down even if you move it all the way up , it still goes slowly back to low, i have a compaq presario 5020 and the driver is ess1869, i have encountered this problem with alot of other compaq owners but no one has found a cure , some one said the drivers are not compatible with xp pro ???? any help would be appreciated...unkl

Is there another audio control (software) for your sound card installed?
Also, does your keyboard have volume controls on it.

I have the same problem no other audio control installes or volume control on key board. Any fixex out there..thanx
