CWShredder problems

i didnt like to add to the thread already ongoing about CWShredder problems as i thought it might take some of the attentionfrom the original thread, but i too am having problems with CWShredder it wont do the updates and wont go separately to the site either to allow me to look for them manually. I get a message saying i have the WebCoolSearch virus. I have run several spyware tools...spysweeper, spyblaster, spyguard, spybot search and destroy, Adaware etc and all to no avail. Ive tried running CWShredder from safe mode.

I have also run easy cleaner and it doesnt find anything in my registry.

Im not really very technical about all this and am only just begining to get a grip on whats going on. I have AVG antivirus and Zone Alarm

please help :eek:

For me to get the new update for CWShredder, I did a search for the new one and downloaded it from a trusted site. You might want to try that. If I can remember or find the one I downloaded it from, I'll post it here for you.

Download CWShredder from HERE and run the Program in safe mode . Press the "Fix Button" Let it fix all variants. Next, Close the program and all windows and IE windows and run hijackthis and Post a Fresh log.

Reboot to SAFE mode to run CWShredder

How to start computer in safe mode

Then these 2 programs .
Ad-Aware and Spybot

Download Ad-aware Second Edition here and install it. If you already have Ad-aware Second Edition skip to the next step.

Open adaware and Click the "Check for updates now" line on the main screen. Click the "Connect" button on the webupdate screen.

If an update is available download it and install it. Click the "Finish" button to go back to the main screen.

Click on the "Settings" button (gear symbol in the upper right corner of the main status screen) in the quick launch toolbar to open the General settings screen. Check the "Automatically quarantine objects prior to removal" setting and then click "Proceed" to save your changes

Click the "Scan now" button in the main menu on the left side of the main status screen or use the "Start" button in lower right corner. This will open the Preparing System Scan screen. Please deselect "Search for negligible risk entries", as negligible risk entries (MRU's) are not considered to be a threat. Then select "Use custom scanning options" and click "CUstomize". This will open the "Scan Settings Page. Make sure all of the following are On with a "green" checkmark:

Scan within archives
Scan active processes
Scan Registry
Deep-scan Registry
Scan my IE Favorites for banned URLs
Scan my Hosts File

Then Click the Advanced Button on the left side to open the Advanced Settings screen. Make sure the following is on with a "green" checkmark:

Move deleted files to Recycle Bin

Others are optional to be checked or unchecked.

Then click on the "Tweak" Button to open up the tweak settings.

Open up the Scanning Engine section and make sure ll of the following are On with a "green" checkmark:

Scan registry for all users instead of current user only

Make sure the following is unchecked with a "red" X:

Unload recognized processes & modules during scan.

Open up the Cleaning Engine section and make sure all of the following are On with a "green" checkmark:

Always try to unload modules before deletion
During Removal, unload Explorer and IE if necessary
Let Windows remove files in use at next reboot.

Click the "Proceed" button to save settings.

Click the "Next" button to start the scan.

When a scan is completed the Performing System Scan screen will change name to "Scan Complete".

Click the "Next" button to get to the Scanning Results screens where more information about the objects detected during the scan is available.

Click the Critical Objects Tab. In general all of the items listed will be bad. Be carefull with the Hosts file entries. Malware uses the hosts file to redirect you websites. However you can use the hosts file as a way to prevent malware. If the object has 127.0.0.1 in it, it should most likely not be deleted as it is protecting against unwanted sites. So in short, you may or may not want to fix the hosts file entries.

To fix all the bad critical objects do the following:

Right click on one of them to open up the selection screen. Click the "Select All" button to select all entries. In general all should be selected with the exception of the good hosts file entries.

When all are selected Click "Next" and then "OK" in the pop-up window to confirm the removal.

Download SPYBOT

After installing Spybot S&D, update it by using the "Update" button on the left panel of the program. Search for updates and download anything it finds

And after that, please do the following:

Get The latest Version of Hijackthis 1.98.2

Download 'Hijack This!'.HERE


Unzip (extract) it to a folder of its own.Like c:\HJT\hijackthis.exe ,

Then Doubleclick HijackThis.exe (in the new folder), and hit "Scan".
When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save

Log" button.
Press that, then Ctrl-A to Select All, and copy its contents here. for

hijackthis,most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential,

don't fix anything yet.

Reboot and post a new log

I believe I downloaded it from this site: http://computercops.biz/downloads-cat-14.html. There should be someplace you can click on to find version 1.59.1 I think it is of CWShredder. You might also want to update your HijackThis...the newest version of that is 1.98.0 I think. Good luck in getting your's straightened out!

i just want to scream :cry: my browser will not let me go to the update sites for CWSHredder or HijackThis which are on the same site i tried updating it by going to config and it just says i am not connected to the internet or server is down. i have tried doing CWShredder in safe mode and it does the same thing it just says nothing is present although i can see about:blank pop up once again as i log bck on and start using the pc. I have had various other viruses since having this CW thing which i have got rid of...i think......adawarese didnt find any critical objects last run today...........ive tried doing things it says on other threads it disappears for a while but like others comes back again.........i feel like ive done so much and not got anywhere...i think i will have to start again tomorrow...but i dont know where to start

Spywareguard still showing in your log .
Close all (browser) windows & rescan with hijackthis. When the scan is finished place a check in the box to the left of the following entries & click 'fix checked':

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {6B8B3127-B261-2D90-8256-67550DAF7B4D} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\ysvfrzv.dll

These if you no longer have the program;
