I'd say it depends on what you intend on what you want to do with a language. It helps, however.
"One of the methods used by statists to destroy capitalism consists in establishing controls that tie a given industry hand and foot, making it unable to solve its problems, then declaring that freedom has failed and stronger controls are necessary." --Ayn Rand

I'll assume 3D action games -- not my arena. From the scuttlebutt I've gathered, good math skills are definitely a bonus. But many of the techniques are already out there... somewhere.

when you say make games, you cover a huge span

but you will need to be very good at triganometry then if you want to do game creation because it all deals with angles and working triangles.

tons of game resources right here

http://www.gametutorials.com/

you could do a google search and find more info. i just typed in game creation and game programming.

unless you can work complex trigonomic calculations that have to do with angle measurement and movement for lets say a game character in a 3d world, you wont be programming very interactive games.
