IE will not open new URL from address bar

I am running IE6 SP1 in XP SP1. When I type a new URL in the address bar, IE ignores it. I don't have any problems going to new sites via the address bar dropdown, links or History, but to get to a site I haven't visited before I have to use Google or type it into Mozilla Firefox. I prefer IE. I have looked at

Download LSPfix from here
On the opening screen, click the "I know what I'm doing" checkbox. Check all instances of "lspak.dll" (and nothing else), and move them to the "Remove" pane. Then click Finish.

Close all (browser) windows & rescan with hijackthis. When the scan is finished place a check in the box to the left of the following entries & click 'fix checked':

O3 - Toolbar: Bird up - {2484FC38-B58B-BB8B-02DA-B4B10D337D1B} - C:\PROGRA~1\GREYCO~1\Bows idle.dll (file missing)

Reboot into safe mode following the instructions here & navigate to & delete the following if found:

C:\PROGRA~1\GREYCO~1-folder

c:\windows\system32\lspak.dll-file

Reboot normally. Follow the above instructions exactly or you run the risk of losing your internet connection!

Thanks crunchie - however, although I followed the instructions, IE still takes 30 seconds+ to open a new URL. I couldn't find C:\PROGRA~1\GREYCO~1-folder. Any further ideas? Thanks for your interest

Update hijackthis to version 1.98.2. Run hijackthis & go to *Config\Misc Tools\Check for update on-line*. If the site is down, go here. Remove the old version by deleting the file manually. Unzip the new version into the hijackthis folder. Rescan with hijackthis & post the log.

Open Task Manager & end process on the following:
[b]zczghsfb.exe[b] Make sure it has ended completely.
Then delete the file manually by going to; C:\WINDOWS\System32

Close all (browser) windows & rescan with hijackthis. When the scan is finished place a check in the box to the left of the following entries & click 'fix checked':

OK. Next we will have you disable spywareguard. You may have to do it through Msconfig. Once disabled, reboot, rescan with hijackthis & post that log.

EDIT. Also, just see if there are any updates from microsoft for your system.
