HELP, cant get screen driver to work

I just reformatted my computer and reinstalled Windows ME. Everything is working fine except for the fact that my computer will not adjust the graphics. I have downloaded the necessary driver for my screen but windows still will not give me the option to change the graphic bits. If anyone knows the answer please let me know.
Does your GRAPHIC CARD show up with any errors in the device manager usually a Yellow Punctuation Mark:!:
Device manager is accessible by right-clicking on My Computer, selecting Properties, and selecting the Device Manager tab. Alternatively, you can go thru the control panel to find it. When you say, "downloaded the necessary driver for my screen" do you mean Graphics Card driver.
Lastly, what kind of graphics card do you have.
