replace printer w/o replacing whole system?

Expand Post »
I have a six-year-old iMac, processor G3, OS 9.0.3. When my printer dies I'll have a choice of new printers for less than $100, but they all seem to require increasing my RAM (don't mind that), plus upgrading my OS which requires not only upgrading my Internet Explorer and Outlook Express, but replacing the iMac itself to get required higher speed and more gigabytes. It's like buying a new car to replace the water pump.
Please can someone tell me where to find a concise story on (1) which printers require which combinations of OS, speed, and RAM, and (2) which of those updates are feasible for my iMac?
Thanks, Felix

Re: replace printer w/o replacing whole system?

Unfortunately, it's going to be hard to find a modern printer that still supports OS 9. OS 9 has been a depricated OS for about 5 years now.
