Lots of Finders!

Expand Post »
It all started when I forgot my password, I booted from osx install cd and now I have a flashing blue screen, no hd icon. And when I try to force quit, I have about 20 finders and the only option is relaunch???? I managed to boot to classic but what do I do with os x? Can I uninstall it and reinstall it later?

Re: Lots of Finders!

Hello,

It sounds like something got whacked on your startup volume. First, since OS 9 is working, boot into it, and get your data off the drive. You may not get a second chance at that.

Next, Boot with the OS X CD-ROM. You will get the install screen. Go to the Blue apple in the upper left corner, and select Disk Utility. See if you can repair the disk, and repair the permissions.

Reboot without the CD, and see if that helped. If not, you are probably looking at a format-and-restore.
