Dead corner on eMac screen

Expand Post »
Hello.
This is really strange.
I have a dead lower left corner that is a rectangle, that varies in size from 5/8" to 2 1/4" from the left side of the screen and 1" to 2 1/4" from the bottom of the screen. By that I mean that I can't click on anything in that area or scroll in that area.
I thought it was part of Onyx's preferences. They have an ability to alter Expose' to where one can put 3/4 circles at the hot corners. I recently opted for that and when I got rid of it I thought all was corrected. Wrong.
What could cause this? This machine is out of the extended warranty by 3 months. Figures doesn't it. I thought maybe the mouse. I'm at my folks house of Windows and don't have access to another mouse. But logic seems to rule that out.
I've measured it twice tonight (with a tape measure), hence the varying measurements.
I've also moved all dock icons and that didn't help.

Anyone with any ideas, I'd appreciate greatly.

Thanks,
Dan

Well, as of today, it seems to not have the apparently mind boggling issue anymore.
Did you change anything?
No I didn't
Hmm.
Sorry I can't help you Danarchy. That one had me puzzled from the beginning.
Me too.
Well, all seems fine now, so thanks for all your input of possibilities.
No problem. That's what we're here for.

Hi Dan,

I did a quick search on Google, and I found a related discussion on the MacInTouch site's Reader Reports page. There's a post about 1/4 way down the page called Expose Screen Dead Zone, and a bit below it there are a number of replies by OnyX users with the same screen symptoms. It sounds exactly what you are experiencing.

I am not at all familiar with OnyX, but it appears that the problem is caused when a feature is enabled that creates a small desktop thumbnail or window on the screen. Turning off this feature should solve the problem.

Here is the link: http://www.macintouch.com/panreader36.html

There's also a mention of this problem on versiontracker in the user feedback for OnyX 1.4.7. See the reader feedback titled "There's a reason Apple hid those Expose options."

Hope this helps.

This thread discusses various ways to fix or undo the problem.

Hope it works for you.

Hey Don,
Thanks a lot!
I thought it had to do with OnyX, but was not looking in the right area. This link from this site, that I'm registered with, had everything I needed to know.
Thanks again. I've been too busy with personal stuff and my girl's PC to investigate more.

Now if you have any questions on photography, plumbing, painting, electrical, etc. , let me know and I'll try to help.

Really appreciate this!
Dan
