lost user name and password

Hi I got a i-mac g3, but i have lost the username and password to get into the sysytem is there a way to reset the username and password? thanks, Larry

Boot from the OS X installer and use it to reset the password.

Yes. Be sure to hold down the "c" key when booting up.

I do not have the osx installer I bought it used. It was working fine until I logged off instead of shutting down.
