static ip

Expand Post »
I am using an iMac OS 10.4, with an Airport Exteme, connecting to 3 Windows XP machines, one desktop and 2 laptops. Our internet service is Bellsouth. We are thinking about changing to cable internet, but understand that Brighthouse uses a static ip, as opposed to a dynamic ip. We have been told that the static is less secure, since the dynamic keeps changing. Is this the case?

Sometimes a static IP address may be a concern, although you should note that you can change it anytime you want, and to anything that you want.

Also, static IP addresses are usually considered superior to dynamic IPs because of the fact that you can set your IP address to anything that's not used. If you're really worried, there is software out there that can constantly change it, so you really can be anonymous.
