macg3 (blue & white) problem

my mac has no os & i cant access the bios, so i got a bootable mac os8 but ... still nothing.the rom will show that its reading bt i still get that 'os error flashing thingy' on the screen, like it would if no harddrive is connected.i cant wait to use it.could somebody out there please,please help:sad: .

Okay, when you insert the OS disk
did you hold the apple key and "C" as it boots up?
