boot up RED HAT 9, pause?

I start up red hat after a fresh install, heres the last threee lines before it produces no more out put.
kjournalstarting. Commit interval 5 seconds
EXT3-fs: mounted file system with ordered data mode
Freeing ununsed kernal memory: 128k feeded

then it sits there for a while with nothing else. On my friends PC it gets right to the command prompt $, well if youc an help please!

Have you had any version of Linux running correctly on this system before? Give us the system's full specs.

Yes, I run Knoppix 3.7 and Ubuntu.

256 MB Mem
9 GB Free
AMD Athlon 655mhz

Redhat 9 has some options which you can pass to the kernel at the Boot: prompt to work around certain problems or incompatibilities. You can read about them here:

http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/l...-bootopts.html

Try the "noathlon" option first; it's been known to clear up boot-up hangs on Athlon systems.

Let us know how it goes. Those boot options often do the trick, but if not, we'll try to come up with some other solution(s) for you.
