freeBSD the most simple install

Expand Post »
This step by step install is a hand written record, while the install took place. Disregard any typo's
Let me start by saying that the BSD's are very responsive & quick, so do not hit buttons rapidly.
I might, make a openBSD/ solaris/pitbull LX guide in the future, if I have the time.
openBSD & solaris/trusted solaris actually are the fastest two installs & downloads.

This freeBSD 5.1 install was executed VIA CD/DVD-ROM
And the ISO was downloaded from www.LinuxISO.org

Pre Install measures:
  • Download Aida32 from these mirrors
    www.webattack.com
    or
    www.downloads.com
you will need to print out the specs for most of your hardware
    monitor
    keyboard
    mouse
    video card
    ect.....
  • After you have set your BIOS to boot from CD_ROM you may continue.

(This install method is for using the whole HDD only)

    Install method:
  • 1.Place cd labled freeBSD 5.1 into drive & reboot.

Re: freeBSD the most simple install

-If FreeBSD is going to be the only O/S installed, the boot manager isn't needed.

-It's not a good idea to configure the system as a gateway unless that system is going to be used as a gateway/router. For a standard install, they should choose [N] when asked if they want to configure the system as a gateway.

The FreeBSD Handbook is the best place to find answers for installation questions, or for information on anything regarding the FreeBSD system configuration.
