This step by step install is a hand written record, while the install took place. Disregard any typo's
Let me start by saying that the BSD's are very responsive & quick, so do not hit buttons rapidly. :lol:
I might, make a openBSD/ solaris/pitbull LX guide in the future, if I have the time.
openBSD & solaris/trusted solaris actually are the fastest two installs & downloads.
This freeBSD 5.1 install was executed VIA CD/DVD-ROM
And the ISO was downloaded from
www.LinuxISO.org
Pre Install measures:
- Download Aida32 from these mirrors
www.webattack.com
or
www.downloads.com
you will need to print out the specs for most of your hardware
monitor
keyboard
mouse
video card
ect.....
- After you have set your BIOS to boot from CD_ROM you may continue.
(This install method is for using the whole HDD only)
Install method:
- 1.Place cd labled freeBSD 5.1 into drive & reboot.
- 2. Choose [s]tandard install
- 3. Choose [d]elete partitions using the up/down arrow keys by using the letter [d]elete
- 4. Choose [a]ll use entire disk space
- 5. Choose [Q] finish
- 6. Boot-manager [Yes]
- 7. Choose [A]uto Defaults
- 8. Hit the down arrow key &Choose [A]LL Packages. Then hit the up arrow key to [E]xit
- 9. If you have to CD/DVD-ROMS it will see them both choose cd-0 or just hit [ENTER]
- WARNING LAST CHANCE Choose [ENTER]

Fill out the name and the password.
- 28.Now make a password for ROOT
- 29.Choose [Exit install] using the arrow keys.

System will reboot make sure you have cd out when it does.
Now you will get to a login screen

If it failed to start you need to configure X properply you may do this by typing
