Redhat 9 bootup problem

Expand Post »
Hello everyone,

I just had a problem pop on me today and because of my inexperience with Redhat 9, I'm not sure what to do about it.

I have a P3/733 runing with Redhat 9 (Shrike) and it's been running well for quite a while now. Just this morning, I booted up my machine and it now halts after

Configuring kernel parameters:

It does give the [OK] for it and advances to the next line which leads me to suspect that the problem lies in the next procedure that the OS is about to invoke.

Any thoughts??

Thanks

Re: Redhat 9 bootup problem

UPDATE:

While stalled after the

Configuring kernel parameters:

I hit a CTRL-C sequence which allowed the system to continue booting. Despite this, I received a failure on

Updating /etc/fstab Unable to open /etc/fstab for writing: Read-only file system

There are other failures to follow because of a read-only file system. What caused linux not to change the file system to read-write? How can this be corrected?
