problem detecting sound

hi guys,
well i installed red hat linux 9.0 on my computer but it did not recognosed
the sound cards and so no sound was available.
help here also tell me from where i can know about the linux cammands and networking thriugh linux.

What are your system specs? What kind of sound card do you have?

My soundcard wont be detected at all under Fedora Core 1 which is similar to RH9
