Can't connect to internet through windows xp

Hi all

I am new to linux and am running ubuntu 9.04 one box at home and windows xp on my machine that connects to the internet on a wireles local service. My problem is that i can't get ubuntu to connect to the internet through my xp machines connection. All settings in xp are correct to share it's internet connection. please help

go to terminal
type === sudo gedit /etc/network/interface

check here u already assigned ip details .... if not configure here as
ip address= *.*.*.
subnetmask=
gateway=
dns=

then save
then give commnad.... sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart...
u can fix problems.....

Hi Faisu

Did what you said, still no joy. There were no ip details in the interface screen so i typed in:
ip address=192.168.0.1
subnetmask=255.255.255.0
gateway=192.168.1.1
dns=
and saved after this, also typed the network restart command which was performed still no joy.

When i edit the connection settings in preferences>network connections i am able to establish a connection and copy files to the linux machine but no internet.Please help what next
