modifying normal.dot won't save

I've just got a new computer and want to modify normal.dot in Word. It's OK as long as I have Word open, but when I close it and then reopen, the changes have not been saved.

Any suggestions?

Most templates are read-only. If you want to modify it, change the attributes (right-click, properties, etc.).

In the future, please don't bump threads that are over a year-old. Also, use complete, professional English. Thanks.
