Internet Explorer 6.0 won't open

For the last few days IE 6.0 won't open links - it just opens a blank window and the egg timer runs.

I have had a problem with spyware - which I removed with ad-aware.

I'm running XP and have tried re-installing IE6.0 and resetting the default settings - neither of which has worked.

Any ideas?
