IE 6 not recognizing security settings

Running IE6 on XP.

Initially saw that IE had problems opening HTTPS connections, though they worked fine on Netscape 7 (Mozilla). So I tried to go to Windows Update to see if any patches were available, and I get the message "Your security settings prohibit you from running Active X controls on this page" (or something like that).

The problem is, my settings are fine. IE doesn't recognize them correctly. I even tried temporarily turning my security settings to 'low' and still got the same message.

Any ideas? (Yes, there are really 2 issues in this post)

try system restore if you have a point before this problem happened. Thn scan for viruses and spyware with adaware, spybot S&D, and your antivirus software. And if you want to you can download sp2 for winXP which comes with a new IE that has better options resembling mozilla. You can download sp2 from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=049C9DBE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en
