Hi, bobby, the beauty of running an online scan is that you do not have any files loaded which could become corrupted - you load an ActiveX which runs the scan, plus a signatures file. So do this:
Clean first to reduce the log clutter... here is one:
==Download this temp file cleaner from http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=1 --click in the download window to run it, and when ATF Cleaner opens go Select all, and then Empty Selected.
Next click Firefox [if you have that browser..] at the top, Select All again, and Empty Selected again. Follow that procedure also if you have Opera.
Close ATF.

-select a link to the scan... free online virus scan...., enter a valid? email and follow through, choosing My Computer for a full system scan.

Antivirus shut down, Cannot install other Antivirus/Antispyware
Ok this is a first, i have Mcafee Enterprise edition with the firewall and Antispyware installed on the PC = XP Corp SP2, 250 Sata=(Bootable drive) HDD, 320G IDE, 2G RAM. my sun had a freind laptop connected to my Router (wired) i decide to share some files with him ( Music and videos for the ITouch) as soon as i did the share on his computer, i restart my PC, the entire Mcafee suite did not load(no icons in Task Area) so i restart again thinking the pc hang up, still not load, tried to do a repair install, got error message that i have no access to Mcshield.exe, tried to uninstall got he same message, I now suspect a nasties. so i tried to scan with adaware got error message, that i have no access to to a file that was not even on the the pc in the adaware directories, i LOL tried to install Symanted corporate editionm got error i have not access to a file in the symantec directori SND**.EXE not this tile IE start to run real slow, did a search for the error on symantec and it staes that i either dont have permission or there is a virus already on the PC. so i treid AVG and go this error Local machine: installation failed

A Bagle worm. Cool. G'day, bobby, Mcafee is one AV service it shuts down, AVG is another. You should be able to load one of them now.
Bagle uses a rootkit; if you were to start your PC in Safe mode and scan from there the rootkit would not be activated and so the files etc that it protects would be visible. To start in Safe mode go Start, run msconfig, under Boot.ini check Safeboot and allow your sys to restart. However Panda should have cleaned your sys properly already; rerun it in safe mode if you wish [Safe mode with Networking...]
Good. Now for that safe mode issue if it reoccurs. It could be a sys file that is corrupted - I doubt it but it is the easiest thing to test. Run sfc /scannow and load your your same-spec installation cd.
Not fixed? There are a lot of registry entries concerned with booting specifically into safe mode, lists of drivers to load and so on. If these are damaged the easiest way to repair them is probably to run Windows Repair using your installation cd. Boot from the cd, ignore the repair with Recovery console option and instead choose Setup, select your installation and go from there.

...of course, using a restore point from before the infection occurred will give you back those registry entries...

You've got some good help here, but I just wanted to add something.
If none of that works, you can remove your C: drive, slave it to another machine (making sure to back up your important information!) Boot into safe mode on that machine, and then run your scans. I suggest using whatever is installed on the machine in addition to A-squared free http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/download/ And perhaps- if you do safe mode with networking- trendmicro housecall

I was eventully able to scan all my files with panda, then i was able to do a repair and boot to safe mode. after that i was able to run NOAdware online scan, this help to remove all the trojans, i was then able to reinstall mcafee and did a ful scan nothing was turned up in the scan. i was happy
NB during this process i had no problem starting my PC, just starting in safe mode, which the scan fixed.
Another note
i still did a clean install (wanted to use a different version of XP = Medica Center) after all of this but the help i got was excellent.

Did you try the msconfig route to Safe mode that I suggested?
Oh, yeah, before I forget... keygens. I am not a preacher, but if you wanna run them, run them in a sandbox - rclick em, select Run as, make sure the Protect box is checked... that will limit the damage they can cause if they are baddies. If your AV, AS etc is on the ball they should light up if they are bad the moment you select them, or open the directory they are in.

I have the same problem as bobbyraw, my Dell is also infected with the Bagel.gen worm. My McAfee AV is stopped, ZoneAlarm firewall is stopped, I couldn't use system restore to restore to any of the previous restore point, the restore attempt keep failing. Also, I couldn't start Wireless ZeroConfiguration so my wireless connection to the internet was down to. I couldn't install other AV or Antispyware at all.
I'm using Windows XP on Dell Inspiron 630m, McAfee AV 8.5i
Please help!!! I need to fix my comp urgently because i needed it for uni.

Hi Chi,
Have you tried one of the two free online scanners that has been suggested in this thread? You don't have to install or buy anything. Only you have to agree that an ActiveX-component is used. But you will definitely agree to this proposition, since it will help you get rid of the worm (and all the other nasty stuff that you have but didn't know about...)! I ran both scanners (one after the other) and together they did it. They are:

and
www.pandasoft.com (just give any [email]bla@blabla.bla[/email] as e-mail address, it is not used).

Firstly, thanks arjan64, i've tried all that and it doesn't help much but i managed to be able to reinstall McAfee in the mean time while I'm making backup of all the important docs, ready to reformat my comp.
crunchie, sorry, i didn't know i couldn't do that. As you can tell I am a newbie here and am just so desperately looking for help to solve my problems and found this thread. Anyhow, will keep that in mind and do the right thing next time.
