bridge.dll and unable to download

Expand Post »
Forgive me if this is a repost, it is my first post.

I am having a nightmare of a time with my PC. First of all on booting up (XP SP1), I receive a message box saying the bridge.dll cannot be found. Second problem is that I am unable to download anything from the web. I try downloads, and they all sit there until they time out. I used another PC to download hijackthis and the log is below. One last thing, when I open a new web page, it also just sits there, I have to hit stop and refresh for it to load.
I am running Ad-Aware 6.0 and Spybot S&D.

Windows XP SP1
IE 6.0
SBC DSL connection (2Wire)
Zonelabs Zone Alarm Firewall
Norton

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks a ton.

Yes, your TCP/IP software has been corrupted; that's what the following entries in your log are indicating:

O10 - Unknown file in Winsock LSP: c:\program files\neoteris\secure application manager\gapsp.dll
O10 - Broken Internet access because of LSP provider 'osmim.dll' missing

Also, you are running HJT from within a Temp directory. You need to create a separate folder for HJT (like C:\HijackThis or C:\Spyware Tools\HijackThis) and run it from there. Do that, and repost your log.

To get rid of the Bridge.dll error, have HJT fix fix the following entry:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [RunDLL] rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\bridge.dll",Load

Re: bridge.dll and unable to download

Also, Download LSPfix from here
On the opening screen, click the "I know what I'm doing" checkbox. Check all instances of "osmim.dll" (and nothing else), and move them to the "Remove" pane. Then click Finish.

Close all (browser) windows & rescan with hijackthis. When the scan is finished place a check in the box to the left of the following entries & click 'fix checked':

Re: bridge.dll and unable to download

Thanks. I am still unable to download, and pages are still not loading until I refresh. I followed your instructions, and afterward, rebooted. I even double checked that the osmim.dll was still gone (making sure it wasn't getting loaded on reboot). Any other ideas you could run by me? I really appreciate the help!

Re: bridge.dll and unable to download

Your log looks clean, so the problem must be somewhere else. (I was wrong about the " O10 - Unknown file in Winsock LSP: c:\program files\neoteris\secure application manager\gapsp.dll" entry in your log; that entry is valid.)

When did the download/page load problems first start, and had you changed/added/removed any software or hardware around that time?

Re: bridge.dll and unable to download

The only thing I remember loading was Spybot and Ad-Aware. They shouldn't be causing this I wouldn't think.
Can I reload TCP/IP? I am having the same problem on IE and on my Yahoo browser.

Re: bridge.dll and unable to download

No, Ad Aware and SpyBot would not have caused this.

You can reinstall your TCP/IP stack, although given the fact that you have the neoteris addition to your winsock configuration, that will probably get wiped out in the process. I can't find enough information that the moment to say whether this will be a problem or not; but if you want to remove and reinstall/reset your TCP/IP stack you can try this:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=299357

or this (note that this method involves editing the Windows Registry; follow the steps exactly, as making a mistake when editing the Registry can be fatal!):

Step 1: Delete the WINSOCK registry keys

START | RUN | REGEDIT

Navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock

Delete the Key

Navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock2

Delete the Key

Reboot your machine (Do not skip this step).

Step 2: Install TCP/IP on top of itself

START | RUN | NCPA.CPL (no dialog box will open)
Right click on the your Network Connection
Select Properties
Click Install
Click Protocol
Click Add
Click Have Disk
Type the path to the nettcpip.inf file, for example: c:\windows\inf,
Click OK
You should now see "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" in the list of available protocols.
Select TCP/IP
Click OK.
Restart the computer

Re: bridge.dll and unable to download

Still no dice. I went to the Mocrosoft site and got instructions to run the command 'netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt'. This supposedly resets the stacks. I have XP, and could not find the nettcpip.ini file, should it be there?

Thanks again.
