Re: dxsetu, winsock and other nasty things I cant get rid of

Make sure you've turned off System restore, and delete dxsetu.exe from c:\windows (make sure you've gone into Explorer\Folder Options\Uncheck Hide windows system files) otherwise you won't find the exe.

If you've follow my previous post to the letter it should fix it.

Re: dxsetu, winsock and other nasty things I cant get rid of

Thanks Lummy...

Its frustrating, but I do appreciate your advice.

I could not find dxset.exe (dxsetu), Ive shown all hidden files, and done a search for it. Just keeps coming back! Some of the files you mentioned I dont think I have after doing a search. System restore is off too.

One other thing is that winsock.dll will just not delete! I do delete it, it goes to my norton recycling bin, and ten a few seconds later, or when I do another search its back there again!!! In the system32 folder.

Ill attach another log for what it is worth.

Really truly, thanks for the advice - I may reinstall windowsif I need to.

Thanks again,

Martin

Re: dxsetu, winsock and other nasty things I cant get rid of

Just one other thing...explorer (on the eask manager) seems to be taking up quite a lot of memory. This is also where trojanhunter 'unpacks' the .dll files from when I boot up. cmd shows up lots also when I boot up still using the processor as much as it can.

Thanks

Re: dxsetu, winsock and other nasty things I cant get rid of

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH!

HAPPY DAYZ!

OK: THANKS TO LUMMY, CAPERJACK AND CRUNCHIE!!!!

SEEMS TO HAVE GONE! YEH! EVERYTHING BACK TO NORMAL.

Ok, so what did it??? Yes ok I feel a bit of a fool, not being able to read instructions properly...I didnt show the hidden files properly. I made just normal hidden files visible, not the system process files. Found the little horrid files mentioned (inc dxsetu) and its gone....no warning meesages from norton or trojan killer at all! Ha ha!

Thanks folks.

Think I got it from FM2005 as I read on someone elses thread. That'll teach me.

Thanks again superfolks,

bye
