Rundll32.exe Problems = [ Need some assistance

Hi, ive recently downloaded a .jpg file that has a icon of a txt file from my email. Seeing it was sent from a friend of mine's email, naturally i had no hesitation in downloading it. However when i opened the application, and nothing had happened, i realized something was wrong. I asked my friend about it and he said he knew nothing of this. Some symptoms i started experiencing was rundll32.exe in my task manager seems to run at 80% or more of my CPU memory. Along with this, i experience shut down problems and have to result to manually doing so. I have searched the forums for errors regarding the file rundll32.exe and have seen quite a few familiar cases. However it seems each has a different problem and requires a different approach. However i have understood that my Rundll32.exe file was probably modified and now has a trojan, worm or some other malicious programme hiding behind it which my norton antivirus cannot detect. I have downloaded Ad-ware se Personal and ran it. It had reported 1500 files that are detected to be suspicious. However when i tried to remove these files, a progress bar named " Quaratine Selection " would appear. However upon commpletion the bar and the programme would stop to respond. I then downloaded Hijackthis.exe and ran it. Here are the logs :

I'd also like to ask how come adware always stop responding, and what anti virus programme you would reccomend for a ADSL user. I have read somewhere on this forum that no more then 5 days delay of virus updates should occur. However the norton anti virus i have recieved with this system is expired in registration. Will this mean i will have to spend money every year to re-register?

We have found that some of the CWS infections can be removed better from safe mode, rather than normal mode.
To get to safe mode use the F8 key while booting the machine. Detailed instructions from here :-

Downloaded and Install Spybot S&D, accepting the Default Settings
(Please ensure you have version 1.3 final.)

2. Go to Start > Programs >Spybot – Search & Destroy and choose Spybot S&D

3. Close ALL windows except Spybot S&D

4. Click the button to ‘Search for Updates’ and download and install the Updates.

5. Next click the button ‘Check for Problems’

6. When Spybot is complete, it will be showing 'RED' (RED) entries ‘BLACK’ entries and ‘GREEN’ (GREEN) entries in the window

7. Unsure there is a check mark beside the RED (RED) entries ONLY.

8. Choose ‘Fix Selected Problems’ and allow Spybot to fix the RED (RED) entries.

9. REBOOT

Try this , is it any better? I knew that you shouldnt have any other windows open and i think i didnt leave any. How ever sometimes IE is open, because even though i dont have any windows open windows messenger ( MSN messenger ) will not let me close the icon in the task bar. It will say " some function of IE is currently in use ".
