Re: Web pages won't open

you need to put hijackthis in its own directory for example C:/hijackthis/hijackthis.exe
you cannot run it out of a temporary directory

What do you mean, did you get "answers" when you tried to ping the internet?

Did you try an alternate Browser to see if the problem still exists? Have you run Spybot S&D, or eScan?

Re: Web pages won't open

Go to Start\run and type cmd.exe and hit ok. Then type ping www.google.com and hit enter, then paste the results from that here.

Re: Web pages won't open

crunchie,
Clicked Start/Run, then type in cmd.exe I get message Windows cannot find "cmd.exe" . When I type in pingwww.google.com I get message, Windows cannot find "pingwww.google.com".

I have not run another browser. What do you suggest. Have tried Adware. Where do I find Spybot S&D and eScan, on downloads.com?

Re: Web pages won't open

jokuly, Google is a very fine thing, you can find a lot of answers and files you are looking for.

To do a ping under Windows ME, you will have to open the MS-DOS Command Box (Start->Programs->Extras (or something like that)). Then type:

ping www.google.com

Don't forget the backspace after 'ping'. You should get 4 answers.

Alternate Browser: did you ever hear about Firefox ?

Spybot S&D: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/

eScan: http://www.mwti.net/antivirus/free_utilities.asp

Re: Web pages won't open

Tried "ping/www.google.de" in MS Dos and got this message, "Value must be supplied for option".
Installed FireFox, no change.
Tried Spybot S&D, no change.
Now however I get 2 messages when I restart Windows now, "A required .DLLfilePSYSTRAY.PYD.was not found" appeares.
After I click OK I get message "The TCP/IP network transport is not installed"
Getting very frustrated............................
