OK- you definitely still have problems.

First, we need to ge rid of the "newdotnet" infection. Removal instructions have been posted by our member "crunchie" in the following thread. Please follow his advice concerning newdotnet removal very carefully, as improper removal of the pest can further corrupt your Internet connection:

Good- according to your log, the NewDotNet uninstall seems to have worked.

If the "Windows TaskAd" program shows up in Add/Remove Programs, choose to remove it. If it isn't present in the list, or the uninstall fails, the manual removal instructions are included in the rest of your clean-up procedure below:

1. Have HijackThis fix the following:

O2 - BHO: Search Relevancy - {1D7E3B41-23CE-469B-BE1B-A64B877923E1} - C:\PROGRA~1\SEARCH~1\SEARCH~2.DLL

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [OSS] c:\windows\system32\ossproxy.exe -boot

2. Reboot into safe mode (you get to the safe mode boot option by hitting the F8 key as your computer is starting up)

- Open Windows Explorer, and in the Folder Options->View settings under the Tools menu, select "show hidden files and folders", and uncheck "Hide protected operating system files".

- Delete the following files if they still exist:
c:\windows\system32\ossproxy.exe
C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\bridge.dll

- Delete the following folders entirely:
C:\Program Files\Search Relevancy
C:\Program Files\Windows TaskAd

- For every user account listed under C:\Documents and Settings, delete the entire contents of these folders:

1. Local Settings\Temp
2. Cookies
3. History
4. Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5

- Delete the entire content of your C:\Windows\Temp folder.

Note- If you get any messages concerning the deletion of system files such as desktop.ini or index.dat, just choose to delete those files; they'll be automatically regenerated by Windows if needed. Windows will allow you to delete the versions of those files which exist in sub-folders within the main Temp/Temorary folders, but might not let you delete the versions of those files that exist in the main Temp folders themselves; this is normal and OK.

- Empty your Recycle Bin.

3. Reboot normally, run HijackThis again, and post a new log.

Well, I've tried...
You wrote: "- Open Windows Explorer, and in the Folder Options->View settings under the Tools menu, select "show hidden files and folders", and uncheck "Hide protected operating system files".
How do I find Folder Options in the Windows Explorer?

In the Menu bar across the top (File, Edit, etc.), click on Tools, click on Folder Options, click on the View tab, find Hidden files and folders and click on the circle next to Show hidden files and folders; go down a couple more lines and you'll find Hide protected operating system files, remove the check from this box.

You're using Windows XP, so the directions that dlh6213 and I gave you should work.

Also- Just exactly what options do see under the main "Tools" menu option?

Make sure you're using Windows Explorer and not Internet Explorer.

here, I'm back at last.

Well, I've been looking for the Show hidden files and folders and Hide protected operating system files, but they don't exist. How come?

I have no idea what's going on there; the view options we've mentioned should be just below the "Do not cache thumbnails" checkbox

This attachment shows one of the boxes you're looking for, the other should just be a few lines down from there.

I would suggest using your XP CD to see if you can recover the missing items:

You know, it shouldn't make any difference, but try it this way:
Go to Start, Settings, Control Panel; double-click Folder Options, and then click on the View tab. See if you have the options there to 'Show hidden files,' and turn off 'Hide protected system files.'
