I have a similar problem... I installed the SP2 update, the next time that I started up my computer the connection to the internet was not accessible. When attempted to open a webpage a generic webpage appears that states "The page cannot be displayed" then if I try a different website I get a message box that states "internet explorer could not open the search page." Now what is really strange is that I still have access to MSN Messenger and I can access the internet using windows explorer. This connection problem only seems to be affecting Internet Explorer. If anyone has any suggestions on how to fix the internet explorer it would be greatly appreciated.
