I've been highjacked by Ownbox.com

Expand Post »
Hi this is my first post and I think I've come to the right place for help after reading all the great replys to others with similar problems. My problem- every time I try to go to a certain website, I immediately get redirected to Ownbox.com. I just ran hijack This! with my browsers shut down and here's my log. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Re: I've been highjacked by Ownbox.com

Scan with hijackthis and tick the boxes next to all the following entries, then close all browser and explorer windows, and hit the "Fix checked" button.

Netster

Download the Hoster.
Run it and press "Restore Original Hosts" and press "OK". Exit Program.
Note that if you have a custom host file, this will remove it. You can edit the host file with this program too.

Reboot and post another log please.

Re: I've been highjacked by Ownbox.com

I followed your instructions and this is the new hijack log. There are a couple of items that I know can be deleted involving "Sim City" and I'm going to delete them on the next HiJack run. Thanks for your help.

I'm not seeing anything bad there. Are you still being re-directed?

Re: I've been highjacked by Ownbox.com

Unfortunately, yes I'm still being redirected as before. The site I'm trying to reach is aafees.com, but I am redirected to ownbox.com\treasure\shop.html where I get a Windows Internet Explorer window that I've won Virtual Reality Casino with a "go" or "cancel" choice. When I cancel, I get redirected to http://usseek.com/search/internet/gifts. Aafees.com is the only site where I get a redirect. I can access any of my other sites without a problem. So Internet Explorer seems unaffected. I also have Mozilla Firefox and the same thing occurs also.

I typed in aafees.com into my browser, then hit stop before it executed and went to view source and this came up in my notepad.

<HTML>
<HEAD>
<META HTTP-EQUIV="refresh" CONTENT="0; URL=http://www.ownbox.com/treasure/shop.html">

<script language='javascript' src='http://127.0.0.1:1026/js.cgi?pca&r=19668'></script>

</HEAD>
<BODY>
</BODY>
</HTML>

<script language='javascript'>postamble();</script>

Does tha help any?

Why do you want to go to 'aafees.com'? It's not a problem with your computer, I get directed to the same place you do when I try it. Of course, I closed it with Task Manager rather then click anything in the box.

Re: I've been highjacked by Ownbox.com

Did you download and run the Hoster from my previous post? In this line

<script language='javascript' src='http://127.0.0.1:1026/js.cgi?pca&r=19668'></script>

the bold is your Host file.

Re: I've been highjacked by Ownbox.com

I ran Hoster as you suggested. It seems now that the problem is not with my computer, but with the site itself which has been hijacked. I din't have another computer to check it, so I assumed I had the problem.

Thanks for your help and for the good pointers I picked up from you all in the process.
