Internet explorer and firefox work for about 5 minutes after startup, then display the "cannot load webpage" message. Google talk and AIM continue to work, though. https:// sites like gmail are still able to work, but http:// sites don't load. I have cleared the temporary files, but the problem persists. I would appreciate any and all help in solving this problem.

That may not 100% work. From my understanding of the situation, the difference from the http protocole and the https protocole is that the https protocole prevents man-in-the-middle attacks. This means there is something between the data transfer of your browser and the server your reading from which with the features of the https protocole, that something will be ignored. So why won't what in the above quote work. Well after you have installed Anti-Malware, it is most likely that you won't be able to update it unless it uses the https protocole (or download updates from another computer). And by looking at your log file I see you have spybot search and destroy installed. If you have allready have the updates for spybot search and destroy then I would suggest to use it. Also, I am not sure if your version of Nortons comes with a firewall but generally having a good firewall (like zonealarm) will really help prevent problems like this occuring.

So just to go over all of that briefly, if you have spybot search and distroy installed and with atleast some old updates then use spybot search and destroy. Also find a secure firewall if you have not allready got one. And if more anti-malware software is needed, you will need to download the updates as a external package that the software can read from file instead of the program getting the updates directly from the internet. Updates will at this time need to be downloaded from a different computer.

Although caperjack was on the right track, you just need to be aware of the difference of the http and https protocoles. Hope that extra information helps.

I used malwarebytes and i found that i had an infection! i used the "fix" tool, but the problem still persists. also, i've found that i can surf the web without limitation on windows safe mode with networking.
