Kuang2 Virus

I believe I have a kuang2 virus on my computer, I guess it is a virus, I have run my mcafee virus scanner as well as a few online ones and it did not pick it up. Does anyone know what this is or how to get rid of it. Thanks

What made me look for this was when I went to www.hackerwatch.org

Why do you believe you have a kuang2 virus ,that scaners won't detect .

Checks for Kuang2 the Virus

Kuang2 the Virus was found.

Kuang2 the Virus is a program that infects all

the executables on the system, as well as set up

a server that allows the remote control of the

computer. The client program allows files to be

browsed, uploaded, downloaded, hidden, etc on the

infected machine. The client program also can

execute programs on the remote machine.

I went to this website www.webzcan.com/Vulns/WZV10132.htm and it said the above

Go here to TrendMicro for an on-line scan & set it to autoclean for you.

Try this scan at Panda as well.

Download HijackThis from here & unzip it into it's own, permanent folder, (Not a temporary folder or the desktop (in a folder on the desktop is fine) & not directly on your hard drive). If you prefer an executable file, then download from here.
If you have anything disabled in MsConfig, please re-enable it/them.
Start HJT & press the scan button. When the scan is finished the scan button will change to save. Save the log to a text file, copy the entire contents of the text file & paste it into the body of your post. DO NOT FIX ANYTHING YET. Most of what is there is necessary for the running of your system.

According to McAfee, the only way to get this is by using P2P. Here are a few excerpts from the link provided below:

If you are using P2P software (Kazaa, Gnotella, Bearshare, Morpheus, eDonkey, eMule, etc.) be very careful with downloaded executable files.

The worm copies itself around and into the folder defined by "Kazaa\localcontent" registry key and into "kazaabackupfiles" subdirectory. Some copies may have enticing names (like "porn.exe", "Matrix Screensaver 1.5.scr", "Smart Ripper v2.7.exe", etc.) so other people may download the worm through P2P file sharing program. Once the downloaded copy of the worm is executed the cycle repeats itself.
Some variants can scan subnets for systems already infected by sub7 or kuang2 to spread furhter.

The worm can also accept remote commands and participate in, for example, a denial-of-service flood attack on a Web site.

Some variants include backdoor capabilities (remote cmd.exe, list files, retrieve files, keylog etc.), port redirection, the ablity to circumvent antivirus and firewalls and can spread using kazaa, kuang2 (port 17300) and sub7 (port 27347).

http://vil.mcafeesecurity.com/vil/content/v_100282.htm

Removal instructions are included in that link as well, but you should still do as crunchie recommended.

I ran both those scans last night and they did not see it. I will post a hijack now

Run Hijackthis and go to the process viewer by going to Config, Misc Tools, Process Viewer, to unload the following running processes;
fsg_4203.exe

Then go to C:\documents and settings\hp authorized custom\local settings\temp<---- and delete the contents of the temp folder.

In order to view these files you may have to select 'show hidden files/folders.' Instructions on how to here.

Scan with hijackthis and tick the boxes next to all the following entries, then close all browser and explorer windows, and hit the "Fix checked" button.

Checks for Kuang2 the Virus

Kuang2 the Virus was found.

Kuang2 the Virus is a program that infects all

the executables on the system, as well as set up

a server that allows the remote control of the

computer. The client program allows files to be

browsed, uploaded, downloaded, hidden, etc on the

infected machine. The client program also can

execute programs on the remote machine.

I went to this website www.webzcan.com/Vulns/WZV10132.htm and it said the above

I am beginning to think the above website is a scam to try and get you to buy their product. I have went to it on antoher computer and it said the same thing. Plus I have never not ran antivirus software. let me know what you think.

I think that ,that is just a definition of how the program would report the virus when it founf it ,the site does not offer a scan of you computer that i could find .not to worry its not telling you that you have the virus

I think you are correct.

Why?:

A) Variants of the kuang infection have been around for years; any currently-updated anti virus program should be able to at least detect them, if not clean them entirely.

B) After having a look around the webzcan site, I agree with your assessment that the they are just trying to entice people to buy their product. For one thing, the exact page that you linked to on that site is just a static web page. In other words, anyone who went to that page would receive the same "warning" message as you; the site has performed no scan of your sytem whatsoever which resulted in that warning. Trust me- the machines on my network are behind about 8 layers of hardware and software protection, are totally infection-free, and I still got the same "warning" as you.

If the online scans from Panda and TrendMicro, and scans with your McAfee A-V program find no "nasties", your system is most likely "clean".
