Problem with msnistehrwn.exe

Expand Post »
I recently encountered this virus and am unable to remove it. It also seems to have disabled my Task Manager.

I've run Spyware Doctor, SpyBot: S&D, Registry Mechanic, done numerous online scans but have been unsuccessful.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Problem with msnistehrwn.exe

Hi SirQuester, welcome to DaniWeb

So that we can see exactly what you have running on your system, I suggest you get the self-extracting version of HijackThis from here (in line 2):
http://www.malwareremoval.com/downloads.html

Then, close any open browser windows, 'Scan and Save Log' with hijackthis, copy the log, and paste it here in this thread.

Re: Problem with msnistehrwn.exe

msnistehrwn.exe seems to be a component of one of the newer variants of the SDBOT worm, and yes- it can disable Task Manager. However, your log is clean; it shows no indication of the worm's startup entries, etc.

Given that, can you give us a few details please?
We'll need as much information as you can give in order to help you remove the pest:

- Which program detected the worm in the first place?

- Which exact online scans have you done?

- You said: "... but have been unsuccessful". Do that mean that the worm is still detected on your system? If so, which program detects it, what files does the program identify as being infected, and in what folder(s) are the infected files located?

Re: Problem with msnistehrwn.exe

I'm not sure exactly what program detected it, Avast I'm guessing because I wasn't home at the time.

The online scans were Trend Micro and Panda Software, both didn't find anything.

No program is detecting now but my Task Manager is still disabled. Any idea how to get that back?

See if this utility restores your Task Manager:

Let us know if it works or not.
