AVG Free says "incompatible software"

Hi,

Can I get some help with finding some software on my machine that was flagged by AVG Free's v. 9? The message said to remove CF746002-94FB-101B-8C12-02608C454BFF, but I cannot find this string anywhere. I ran HijackThis, and here's the log, but I didn't see it in there. In one forum, I saw where another user had this problem and the bottom line advice was to ignore it and hit the skip button when AVG setup flagged this string. What next?

Did trend house call find the same problem?
I have used AVG free and I have not seen it say to remove anything. It has offered problems found with the option to "remove selected infections" or "remove all un-healed infections". Therefore you can get AVG to remove the listing. Some times the file is in a "restore" file and it is not accessible for AVG to remove and then you can click on ignore.

Well, I guess I wasn't completely clear. AVG flagged it when I tried to install the new version 9.0, not during a scan. It said that the offending software could slow down the antivirus.

Good point about the restore file. If that's the case, then it also likely wouldn't affect the operation of the antivirus, right?

I found the string in the registry in My Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{0004E58E-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}\TreatAs.

It is listed as Name: ab (Default), Type: REG_SZ, Data: {CF746002-94FB-101B-8C12-02608C454BFF}

I am new to managing Windows at this level, so I need to ask --
Can I just delete this whole folder from the registry? Just the “TreatAs” folder?

What if I just ignore it and install the new AVG 9 anyway?

I ran into this Problem too. it was because the sevice is not stopping in AVG8 so AVG9 can't install. copy avg9 setup to your pc.
go to start/run/ type services.msc.
right click and stop all the AVG services.
if they don't stop right click agan and go to the properties and "startup type" and select disable. restart your pc and run the AVG9 setup again from your pc.
