Re: Aurora popups on mine too

Hi Comede, welcome to the site

Although your log does shows signs of infection, it doesn't show all of the usual fingerprints of Aurora. Have you already done some cleaning with your Microsoft AntiSpyware and/or other tools? If so, let us know what you've done so far.

Re: Aurora popups on mine too

Hi DMR, thanks for replying.

Yes, I have run Microsoft antispyware 3x, which still finds transponder.abetterinternet, Ad-aware 3x, but what I did over and above that was to go into regedit and found and deleted an aurora folder there.

I had also aborted the install part way through, of the program I had opened, so it may not have been a complete install, but it apparently was enough to give me the popups.

best regards,
Comede

Re: Aurora popups on mine too

OK, that probably explains it then. Let's get rid of the leftovers:

1. Aurora drops hidden files in a few different locations. To see if we can identify those, go here and download Silent Runners.vbs. Run the program, and post the contents of the log it generates.

2. Download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

- Install the program, open it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet though; just close the program once it is updated.

- Reboot into Safe Mode (you get to the safe mode boot option by hitting the F8 key as your computer is starting up).

- Once in Safe Mode, run Ewido, and do a full scan. Save the logfile from the scan.

3. Restart your computer in normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.

Re: Aurora popups on mine too

Hi DMR, sorry I was late getting back to you.

For the life of me, I can not find the Silent Runners log after running and searching everywhere for it.

So I gave up and proceeded to get the ewido app, updated it like you said, not intending to run, but it did automatically, so I let it clean what it found, and rebooted. (so I was never in safe mode)

I've now run HijackThis again and here is the log. My task manager seems much better now, BTW.

Re: Aurora popups on mine too

The log from silent runners will be wherever you are running it from . Try putting it in it's own folder and run it again. Wait for it to finish and the log should appear in the folder.

Re: Aurora popups on mine too

thanks for your quick reply crunchie!

here's and silent runners log.....I couldnt find a ewido log anywhere in it's folder , so I'm having it do a full scan now, and it seems pretty thorough, so it looks like its going to be a while. I'll post it when its done, but here's the silent runners anyway.

Re: Aurora popups on mine too

Download FindIt's.zip to your desktop.
Unzip/extract the files inside, preferably to C:\ < a new folder.
Disconnect from the internet, if you use an always on internet connection, unplug it.
Let your PC be idle for 15 minutes !!
Open the folder and run the FindIt's.bat and wait for a text to open. It will take a while, so please be patient.
Post the results please.

If you get an error similar to: autoexec.nt the system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications, choose close to terminate the application...etc etc' or a 16 bit application error.
Go here and use the appropriate fix for your system
