"WINDOWS\ SYSTEM\ BRIDGE.DLL"

When I boot up my computer, a RUNDLL window pops up stating "error loading "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\BRIDGE.DLL" the system cannot find the file specified.

Also, a program called "Golden Palace Casino" has loaded itself into my computer which I have run both Ad-aware and Spy-Bot which have both detected it but will not remove it.

Could someone out there please help me get rid of these very annoying problems. I thank all in advance.

Thank you very much.

You are experienceing waht is fast becoming a major problem for people using Internet Explorer . called Spyware,
In my signature are some programs to help ,Get Spybot and AD-Aware ,installand update and fix the problems they find ,then get hijackthis and unzip it to its own folder on you harddrive ,not in a temp folder !then run it and save log and copy and past it here ,do not fix any thing in hijackthis until we have a look at the log !

First of all, before removing stuff manually withHijackThis, you should run at least the free version of Ad-aware . I also recommend Spybot -Search & Destroy , but please realize that it requires a bit more computer savvy than Ad-aware. In both cases, make sure that the data-file is up-to-date before you run either program.

Let's go over the problems, since some will have to be removed manually anyway.

* Frsk is one, a hijacker.
* The R0 IE search keys above can go.
* TaskMon is completely worthless, it can go.
* LoadQM is MS spyware ("trickleware") and known to cause problems, especially with Me. Remove it.
* The two 016 keys listed above can go, too. The AOL one is a useless "quality of service" monitor, the second one is part of the hijacker.

I highly recommend that you update to Internet Explorer 6, unless you have an extremely compelling reason not to do so.

I too have the same problem but do not know how to get to the programs you guys are talking about. I am new to this stuff. If anyone can assist a newbe, that would be me, I would apprieciate it. I get the Windows/system/ bridge.dll not found error.
Capperjack said to check his signature for some of those programs. What is that?

In caperjack's post, look below the line & there are a few programs listed there. They are all links to various sites to get the programs needed to remove spyware etc. Once downloaded & installed, they MUST be updated on the net B4 you run them.

Might be an idea to have an online scan, so go to http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ for an on-line scan & set it to autoclean for you.

Once done, reboot then rescan with HijackThis & with all other windows closed have HJT fix these entries=

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,SearchURL = C:\WINNT\system32\searchbar.html

In the 017 lines, are they your ISP domain? If not, have HJT fix them too. But make sure first.

Reboot into safe mode following the instructions here. http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001052409420406 & navigate to & delete these

C:\WINNT\orv2vcbx76.exe< this one
C:\WINNT\Downloaded Program Files\bridge.dll< this one

Boot normally, rescan & post a new log.

That looks good Olav.

Download & instal Spybot S&D from http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=download Update it B4 scanning.
After the scan is complete, have spybot fix everything marked RED.
On the page that first opens when you start Spybot there is an option to immunise, you should do this. In the immunise section there is also a link to download Spywareblaster. Download that & you can keep it updated by selecting the same link that you use to download it.

I have also been afflicted with the "WINDOWS\ SYSTEM\ BRIDGE.DLL" is missing message at startup. Seemingly simultaneously I was involuntarily visiting the golden casino. Per some of the comments in this conversation I removed the golden casino and "Bridge" with Add/Remove in Control Panel. Both of those annoyances are now gone. I have a noticeable slowing of some launching/loading functions. I'll run defrag. I am also taking notes about spyware and Hijackthis and will soon get up some speed on those. Just because I was able to Remove the two visiting programs doesn't mean all is undone that may have been done, but I am much happier and quite a bit relieved that I am not dead in the water. I also booted the computer with the retail cd of Norton AntiVirus 2004 Pro, it scans everything, nothing found.

THANK YOU GURUS!
