Re: newbie poster problem:[ I am infected with hacktool.rootkit ] how can i get rid of it

Hi Valiant_aleksei, welcome to DaniWeb

I'm surprised the shop that worked on your computer didn't install any updates for XP or IE, but that should be the first thing you do.

Follow the recommendations in the links below to help you get your system cleaned up a bit; download Ewido (link in the Cleanup link), scan with it in Safe Mode, and post the log in your next reply along with a new HijackThis log.

Re: newbie poster problem:[ I am infected with hacktool.rootkit ] how can i get rid of it

I already deleted the culprit file name "orans.sys" while in safe mode , and when i rebootedit seems it is already gone and did not regenerated. i also downloaded ewido and performed
a full system scan and fortunately it did not detected any virus :cheesy: , I also perfromed a norton AV scan on the windows32 folder and it did not detected the virus. does this mean my system is clean from the hacktool.rootkit virus? thank you very much to your advice :cheesy: .. is there anything that you can add for me to be fully protected?

this is my newest HijackThis log:

Re: newbie poster problem:[ I am infected with hacktool.rootkit ] how can i get rid of it

You still need to get the Windows Updates for XP and IE, at least SP1.

Scan with HijackThis and have it fix the following:

O9 - Extra button: Related - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Show &Related Links - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm

Close any open windows, other then HijackThis, and hit Fix checked.

Go to C:\WINDOWS\web and delete related.htm

Reboot, close any open browser windows, scan with HJT, and post a new log along with the Ewido log.

Re: newbie poster problem:[ I am infected with hacktool.rootkit ] how can i get rid of it

Your log still shows that you don't have the current updates. Your log shows this:
Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1
Scan saved at 4:34:55 PM, on 8/29/2005
Platform: Windows XP (WinNT 5.01.2600)
MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 (6.00.2600.0000)

Whereas an updated system should look more like this:
Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1
Scan saved at 1:45:37 PM, on 8/28/2005
Platform: Windows XP SP1 (WinNT 5.01.2600)
MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP1 (6.00.2900.2180)

Did you complete this scan after you got the updates?

Please post your Ewido log so we can see what else is remaining.
