:(
Can someone please help me? Last night my computer shut down for no apparent reason and when i started it up again it said that had recovered from a serious error. I have a feeling i may have some nasties on board! My computer restarted and took me to the windows 'one-care' safety scanner and that found many nasties. It wont get rid of them for me. I was wondering if someone could help me to clean my computer up please? Here is my HJT log

Thanks. Got to the GMER rootkit scanner and computer rebooted before I had a chance to do anything. Will continue on as per instructions and let you know.

Just tried to run Malwarebytes and the same thing happened. Windows rebooted and told me that it had recovered from a serious error. Will try again with Malwarebytes.

Have a go in safe mode with those problem tools if you have no joy.

it's running MWB ok at the moment.....fingers crossed!

Here we go!

After running MWB and deleting three nasties, my computer rebooted yet again! I have managed to save log files for MWB and DDS and they are below:

==== End Of File ===========================

Please download ComboFix by sUBs from HERE or HERE

  • You must download it to and run it from your Desktop
  • Physically disconnect from the internet.
  • Now STOP all your monitoring programs (Antivirus/Antispyware, Guards and Shields) as they could easily interfere with ComboFix.
  • Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a log. Please save that log to post in your next reply.
  • Re-enable all the programs that were disabled during the running of ComboFix..

Note:
Do not mouse-click combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.

Run Combofix ONCE only!!

Downloaded ComboFix to desktop and disabled internet and Avast. When I started ComboFix it told me that my computer doesnt have Microsoft Windows recovery console and asks if it would like ComboFix to download it for me. I need an active internet connection to do so. Do I connect?

No, don't connect. Ignore that recovery partition message and continue running combofix.

Ran ComboFix thru however when it gets to the last part of the run thru - computer rebooted again. What happens now?

Did it produce a log? Please look for it at C:\ComboFix.txt.

Doesn't look like it produced a log. I think it probably rebooted before it had a chance.

Did you run it in normal mode?

If so, try it again in safe mode.

If still no good, run it by;

  • Click on your START button and choose Run. Then copy/paste the entire content of the following quotebox (Including the "" marks and the Symbols) into the run box.

    "%userprofile%\desktop\ComboFix.exe" /KillAll

  • Click OK and this will start ComboFix.
  • When finished, it will produce a log. Please save that log to a Notepad File and include it in your next reply.

Note:
Do not mouse-click combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

* Re-enable all the programs that were disabled prior to the running of ComboFix.

* Post the following logs/Reports:

  • ComboFix.txt

CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.

The above script will only work provided you have combofix on the desktop and nowhere else.

Do I leave the internet disconnected and also disconnect Avast when I'm doing this?

Thanks

Yes

Another question...............when in run Safe Mode, I suspended Avast but it says that it's still running....How do I suspend it totally? Can find any settings to close it completely! Want to make sure I dont damage anything. Sorry for sounding like a novice.

Thanks

Check in task manager for Avast and end task if there.

If nothing there, run Combofix anyway.

Tried ending it in task manager......Access is denied. Won't let me end task.

If nothing there, run Combofix anyway.

As above.

Seemed to work ok in safe mode. Here's the log file.

Hope this helps!

Looks like it has run 4 times, so can you take a look in C:\qoobox for any combofix.txt files and post them up.

How is the pc now?

There are two txt files at C:\qoobox: One is an old Combofix log from 2008, and the other is posted below - that's all. The computer hasn't rebooted since I tried to run Combofix yesterday, which is a good thing!

Thanks

Thats good. Lets try an on-line scan to see if anything else shows up.

Please Run the ESET Online Scanner and post the ScanLog with your post for assistance.

  • You will need to use Internet Explorer to complete this scan.
  • You will need to temporarily Disable your current Anti-virus program.
  • Be sure the option to Remove found threats is Un-checked at this time (we may have it clean what it finds at a later time), and the option to Scan unwanted applications is Checked.
  • When you have completed that scan, a scanlog ought to have been created and located at C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt. Please post that log for us as directed below.

NOTE: If you are unable to complete the ESET scan, please try another from the list below:

Kaspersky Online Scanner Panda Active Scan Trend Micro HouseCall F-Secure Online Virus Scanner

Done!

All looks ok. Here is the log.

Am I cured???

Thanks

Looks ok to me. If all your symptoms of infection are gone, do the following;

To remove all of the tools we used and the files and folders they created, please do the following:
Please download OTC by OldTimer:
Save it to your Desktop.
Double click OTC.exe.
Click the CleanUp! button.
If you are prompted to Reboot during the cleanup, select Yes. The tool will delete itself once it finishes.

Done. When the pc rebooted it has come up with a screen to instal something called IMesh. Not sure if that's part of the OTC thing or some other nasty that's trying to get in. What do I do?

Cheers

imesh is a file sharing client and nothing to do with OTC. Refuse the install and reboot to see if you get the message again.

Didn't get the message again but there's a shortcut on the desktop that is called "continue imesh installation" that wasn't there before.

Should I delete it?

Yes, just delete it, but first, right click on it and then choose "find target" and delete the source file.
