Expand Post »
I keep getting this message when I try to open Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.

It seems to be a common problem.

MS Office was installed by a network guy at a place I no longer work

I also (stupidly, upon the advice of another poster) "fixed" some stuff related to IE, and now that program doesn't seem to browse. If you could help with that, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks!

Re: "please wait while windows configures microsoft office xp professional with front

It sounds like your office suite was installed to be run over the network/ off of your works server meaning that its probably not actually installed on your machine. I could be wrong, but it sounds like you aren't licenced to have it installed on that computer. You may have to go purchase your own office disks for it.

Re: "please wait while windows configures microsoft office xp professional with front

Well spyware wise, ya dont got too much. Fix the following:

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {4982D40A-C53B-4615-B15B-B5B5E98D167C} - (no file)
O16 - DPF: {30528230-99f7-4bb4-88d8-fa1d4f56a2ab} (YInstStarter Class) - C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\common\yinsthelper.dll
O16 - DPF: {DBA230D1-8467-4e69-987E-5FAE815A3B45} -
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{3A1A2D54-C40A-485A-8FC6-3451C3B033A5}: NameServer = 68.94.156.1,68.94.157.1

Several things. To try to fix the IE problem, go to 'Config'>'Backups'. With luck, the things ya fixed earlier are still there.

Lastly, the person who screwed ya up, did he post here (as in Daniweb)?

Thanks.

Re: "please wait while windows configures microsoft office xp professional with front

Yeah with that directory, it really sounds like it was installed to be run off of the network. We do that too at my work, and it is terrible because if the servers are down, they cant even do word/excell, and if the servers are slow, everyones machines are slow just for basic office software. I would try to get your hands on a disk and uninstal the old and install the new one you get. Hope this helps

Re: "please wait while windows configures microsoft office xp professional with frontpage

Here is the ABSOLUTELY GARUNTEED Solution to this problem:
1. Un-Install the complete Microsoft Office
2. Use CCleaner to clean up the mess Microsoft is too lazy to un-install. Clean Files, System and Registry with CCleaner.
3. Go Here: www.OpenOffice.org
4. Download and Install the latest version of OpenOffice for FREE (don't let this fool you it is just as full-featured as Microsoft Office without all the BLOAT).
5. Repackage and sell Microsoft Office on E-Bay
6. Use the proceeds of the sale to make a donation to OpenOffice.org (You WILL want to do this because of the no-worries product you now have in place of Microsoft Office.
7. Write a nasty letter to Microsoft and tell them to shove their products up their NOSE but do not tell the the replacement you have found - They will try to BUY it!
8. Keep your new office apps updated because they are being improved monthly and there is never a cost to you.
9. Smile - Don't worry, Be Happy

Sorry, but I am having the same problem with Microsoft Office, and I won't do this.
There are a few reasons, but 1. OpenOffice is NOT as fully featured, it is not as stable, and it loses out on a LOT. 2. The spell checker is crap, so is the grammar checker (if it even has one). 3. My friends think the Open Source movement are cowards for creating free software rather than fight big corporations. (The last one is biased, but the rest are valid).
