can't run ad-aware se

Hi again...the Win2000 seems fine now, but I am avin probs runnin ad-aware se on the main XP puta, it seems 2 stop at program files\DVD Complete\ Logos until then, it says its found 12 new critical objects, I av also tried runnin certain online scans but don't always get 2 the end with em coz I get an error on explorer n it closes down n asks me 2 send details or not..I did however manage to get panda online 2 run last night, I wont post anything untill someone can tell me wot ta do...Oh yeah...this puta has the router on 4 all networkin puta's in the home btw..don't wanna loose any connections trying 2 resolve any probs I may av.:rolleyes:

Awsome. Download HijackThis (current verison is v1.99.1)

or here (Alternate 1, a self-extracting zip file)
or here (Alternate 2, an *.exe file)

Make a new folder to put your HijackThis.exe into.

(Anywhere on your hard drive is fine other than your Desktop or the Temp folder. Suitable examples are:

• C:\HijackThis\
• C:\Programs\hijackthis\
• C:\Windows\My Documents\HJT\

but feel free to use any name.)

Extract and save the HijackThis download to the new folder you made. Then navigate to it and run HijackThis from there. (This is to ensure it makes the necessary backups for recovery if fixes are made) Then, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and click Scan.

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button. Press that and copy & paste its contents in your reply. Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, don't try to fix anything yourself.

Heh alrite good. Let's begin by uninstalling AdwareAlert via the Add/Remove Programs list. It was formerally on the Rogue List, and I don't trust any software that has ever been on that list.

Next, followup by placing checks next to the following in HJT:

After placing checks, close all windows (including this one) and hit 'Fix Checked'.

Now, restart the computer and continue by downloading CCleaner, and specifically choosing the most recent version.

Then, follow these steps:

1. Close all programs so that you are at your desktop.
2. Double-click on the "My Computer" icon.
3. Select the "Tools" menu and click "Folder Options".
4. After the new window appears select the "View" tab.
5. Place a checkmark in the checkbox labeled "Display the contents of system folders".
6. Under the "Hidden files and folders" section select the radio button labeled "Show hidden files and folders".
7. Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled "Hide file extensions for known file types".
8. Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled "Hide protected operating system files". 9. Press the "Apply" button and then the "OK" button and shutdown My Computer.
10. Now your computer is configured to show all hidden files.

Now, install the program. Open it, and choose the 'Options' tab. Inside, hit the 'Custom' tab, and add the following folders (Note: Not all of these files are on every computer. If one of these isn't present, skip it):

C:\Windows\Temp
C:\Temp
C:\Documents and Settings\<Every user listed>\Local Settings\Temp
C:\Documents and Settings\<Every user listed>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5
C:\Documents and Settings\<Every user listed>\Local Settings\History
C:\Documents and Settings\<Every user listed>\Cookies
C:\Windows\Prefetch

After doing this, move back to the 'Cleaner' tab, and inside this, be sure your open to the 'Windows' tab. Inside, check the box labeled 'Custom Files and Folders'.

Next, after following all of these steps, you're ready to scan. Run scans in both the 'Cleaner' and 'Issues'. Note: It might take several scans in each to remove all of the junk.

After doing this, open Ewido (I see ya have it already), update it to the lastest definitions, and run a full scan, saving the log.

Post back here with the Ewido scan log, and a new HJT log.

Couple things. One, ya need to rehide Hidden folders:

We need to re hide system files. To do so, please follow the steps below:

1. Double-click My Computer.
2. Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
3. Click the View tab.
4. Put a check by "Hide file extensions for known file types."
5. Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
6. Check "Hide protected operating system files."
7. Click Apply, and then click OK.

Now, when ya post for the other computer, be sure to start a new thread.

Lastly, could ya mark this thread as solved?

sure...I ad already done that wiv the folders n thanks 4 help once again...just one thing worries me, in the scans I did online wiv panda n bitdefender, they came up with nasties...with wot we've done, will they av been cleared now? and also this mornin when I booted the puta up I cudn't get online, which is strange seein as I av B.B..but after about half an hour I was back online, very weird n odd behaviour, hmmm...dont spose you can also shed some light on a whole folder of photos being shrunk down ( not sumfin I did ) I was gutted ta find the folder wiv my grandson's baby pics no bigger than 8kb jpegs. I'll wait till u reply 2 this n then I'll say its solved if thats ok!!

Hi..sorry to pester again...But...I am still avin probs wiv ad-aware not doin a scan, I also av a feeling that there is sumfin else wrong coz I av done a scan on kaspersky n it said there was a poss screen logger n a backdoor sumfin or other...And on a-squared it is also refering to a possible LAN bypass backdoor or spyware.

Hi tayspen, yeah sumats not right. Please find the new hijack log and also what a-squared keeps saying. Ewido keeps sayin theres a Dialer. Generic which it cleans but it keeps coming back!!!

Hmm, let's do a CCleaner run. (I THINK ya have this program up already. If so, just run 2 scans in each tab, "Clean' and 'Issues'. If not, follow the directions below.)

Begin by downloading CCleaner, and specifically choosing the most recent version.

Then, follow these steps:

1. Close all programs so that you are at your desktop.
2. Double-click on the "My Computer" icon.
3. Select the "Tools" menu and click "Folder Options".
4. After the new window appears select the "View" tab.
5. Place a checkmark in the checkbox labeled "Display the contents of system folders".
6. Under the "Hidden files and folders" section select the radio button labeled "Show hidden files and folders".
7. Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled "Hide file extensions for known file types".
8. Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled "Hide protected operating system files". 9. Press the "Apply" button and then the "OK" button and shutdown My Computer.
10. Now your computer is configured to show all hidden files.

Now, install the program. Open it, and choose the 'Options' tab. Inside, hit the 'Custom' tab, and add the following folders (Note: Not all of these files are on every computer. If one of these isn't present, skip it):

C:\Windows\Temp
C:\Temp
C:\Documents and Settings\<Every user listed>\Local Settings\Temp
C:\Documents and Settings\<Every user listed>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5

After doing this, move back to the 'Cleaner' tab, and inside this, be sure your open to the 'Windows' tab. Inside, check the box labeled 'Custom Files and Folders'.

Next, after following all of these steps, you're ready to scan. Run scans in both the 'Cleaner' and 'Issues'. Note: It might take several scans in each to remove all of the junk.

Now, open HJT and fix the following:

Gerrin back to the issue in hand with this puta..I av already done what you asked, I also uninstalled n re-installed ad-aware but that was no good either, I av also kicked it off n downloaded a fresh one, again it still sticks, now then, I am even avin probs doing online scans...But...I can tell you that Ewido says I av something in the registry, I keep on getting the same result with Ewido even tho it says its cleaned it.

You could try running Adaware in safe mode if you are still having problems, or download Adaware cloak to see if that helps.

To use Ad-aware Cloak, save it to your system, and run the program before opening Ad-aware. Once Ad-aware Cloak opens, click "Activate Cloak" and then open Ad-aware and scan as normal. When you are done using Ad-aware, close Ad-aware Cloak.

Hi again,
crunchie, I av tried that already, safe mode I mean...but I'm now wondering if its something to do with wots called Google Pack, I don't think I av anything to do with the google pack it says ad-aware se is a part of, its strange, all the other puta's will update n run ad-ware but this puta wont...Also when I try to run panda online it tells me I dont av ie6, then a box with a name called Pavlite that I av to put a password in or else it wont run, I av no idea why this should pop up, kasperky gets as far as 99% then it freezes, there is also websites from my fav's being deleted...This puta is starting 2 frazzle my brain, I darn't put them all on at the same time incase whatever is on here is passed onto the other puta's, but that is defeating the object of avin a network setup really!!...I await any reply n hope that its a yes, thats why ad-aware wont run anymore coz of the google pack!!..
