The name of the particular installer (.msi) file used by Dell/My Way may have changed, but if you start by doing the following we can help you remove the program manually:

Download the (free) HijackThis utility:

Once downloaded, follow these instructions to install and run the program:

Create a folder for HJT outside of any Temp/Temporary folders and move/extract HijackThis to that folder now. A folder such such as C:\HijackThis or C:\Spyware Tools\HijackThis will do.

Run HijackThis, but do not have HJT fix anything yet; only have it scan your system! Once the scan is complete, the "Scan" button will turn into an option to "Save log...".

Save the log in the folder you created for HijackThis; the saved file will be named "hijackthis.log". Open the log file with Windows Notepad, and cut-n-paste the entire contents of the Notepad file here.

All right. Have never used hijack this before. Read about it but had hoped adaware and spybot would be enough (sigh) guess not. Ah well. Log is attached. Thanks for the help!

hope you can make sense of this I can't really. Think I see some things that are browser hijackers and some are programs I recognize but not sure.

OK- there's a bit of clean-up to do, but nothing terribly evil.
Please do the following:

You will need to close/quit all web browser programs and disconnect from the Internet for much of the following, so you should print out these instructions or save them into a text file with Notepad.

* Download and install the following utilities:

CCleaner - www.ccleaner.com
ewido Anti-malware - http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
* When installing ewido, under "Additional Options" uncheck..

1. • Install background guard
   • Install scan via context menu
2. Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop, double-click it.
3. The program will now open to the main screen.
4. When you run ewido for the first time, you may get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
5. You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
   • On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
   • Then click on Start Update.
6. The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
   (the status bar at the bottom will display ("Update successful" )

If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.

Don't run a scan with ewido yet; just close the program once the updates are installed.

* Open your antivirus program and check for/install the most current updates. Again- don't run a scan with it; just close the program once the updates are installed.

* Close all open programs, especially Internet Explorer.

* Run another HijackThis scan, put a check mark in the box next to the followingentries, and then click the "Fix checked" button. Close HijackThis once the fix completes:

* Reboot into safe mode (you get to the safe mode boot option by hitting the F8 key as your computer is starting up) and:

* Open Windows Explorer, and in the Folder Options->View settings under the Tools menu, select "show hidden files and folders", and uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and "Hide extentions for known file types".

* Run CCleaner.
- Go to Options-> Advanced: Uncheck "Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours"
- Go to Options>CustomFolders>Add Folder>Navigate to these folders (click on bold file once and hit OK) :

* C:\Windows\Prefetch
* C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Profile>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\ (This will delete all your cached internet content including cookies.)

Hit OK
- In left pane, scroll down to "Advanced, Custom Folders", put a check in Custom Folders
- Click on Run Cleaner. It may take a while for the program to perform its cleaning, so be patient. Close the program when it has finished.

* Run full system scans with your antivirus program, Windows Defender, and ewido; have the programs fix all malicious items they find.
When ewido finds the first malicious object on your system, it will ask you if it should clean it. When it asks this, put a checkmark in the lower left corner of the box that says "Perform action on all infections", then choose clean and click OK.
Save the log file that ewido will create after it finishes scanning; you'll be including that log in your next post here.

* Empty your Recycle Bin, reboot normally, run HijackThis again, and post the new log. Also post the log that ewido generated.

Amazing amount of work to remove one stinking program *grumble*. Also is ewido considered to be the standerd spyware remover? Always used adaware and spybot search and destroy but windows defender and ewido certinly seem to take longer to scan which may or may not mean they are scaning more closely.

I manually edited your first post to correct the problem, but I can't continue to do that.
Please repost the contents of your last post in a way that contains proper alignment, line spacing, etc.. You can have a look some of the other threads in this forum to see how the logs should appear once submitted.

all right let me try this again just copying and pasting from the notepad file but will see if I can make it a little neater.

hmm the only problem then is that the my way search assistant is still on my add remove program list when I look at it through the control panel. Should this worry me? Thank you for all your help!

If nothing happens when you try to remove/uninstall the MyWay entry from the A/R P control panel, that probably means that the entry is "orphaned". Sometimes the names of programs that have been sucessfully uninstalled get "stuck" in the control panel's list and need to be removed manually; this might be the case with your MyWay entry. To remove the entry from the control panel, see this Microsoft support article.

Also- have a look in your "Program Files" folder, and if you find a "leftover" MyWay folder, delete that folder entirely. Do the same for any MyWay folders or shortcuts that you might find under the "Programs" list in your Start Menu.
